The main comedy venue in the South West. Weekly stand-up, improv, cabaret and live music. The Saturday Krater Comedy Club is Bath's longest-running comedy night. Tickets from £12 — book ahead. Late bar, and the bar area works as a pre-show dinner option.

One of the best regional producing theatres in England, with touring productions and in-house work that regularly transfers to the West End. The Ustinov Studio next door programmes smaller, more experimental theatre and has a reputation well beyond its size. Tickets from £20.

A not-for-profit arts centre in a converted chapel, and since Moles closed the closest thing Bath has to a dedicated grassroots music venue. Folk, jazz, blues, world and acoustic acts, plus theatre, film and dance. Small room, seated for most shows, so the sound is good and the sightlines are honest.

Capacity 1,700 in a converted 1930s art deco cinema — Bath's largest indoor music venue and the one that lands the touring names. Also hosts comedy and one-off club nights. Worth going for the room itself, which is largely intact from the cinema years.

A 300-year-old pub on Walcot Street, community-owned since 2013 after more than 500 regulars bought it. Live music several nights a week — often free, usually local, generally packed. The most reliable place in Bath to find live music without a ticket.

Bath's main late club, with three separate rooms so the music policy varies across the night. Busiest Friday and Saturday, and heavily student during term time. Bath's club scene is small — if you want a serious night out, most locals get the train to Bristol.

Live jazz several nights a week under the Victorian train shed at Green Park Station, alongside a proper kitchen. The rare Bath venue that works for an early dinner and a late drink without moving. Book a table if you want to actually see the band.
