Festivals in Bath
Bath punches significantly above its weight as a festival city. The Literature Festival is one of the UK's major literary events. Mozartfest in November is one of Europe's best concentrated classical music programmes. The Fringe in May–June spans 60+ venues. And the Christmas Market is among England's largest and best located. Here's the full annual calendar.

Bath International Literature Festival
Late February / early March annually
Various venues including the Guildhall, Corn Street venues, and the Holburne Museum
Tickets: From free to ~£15 per event · bathlitfest.org.uk
One of the UK's major literary events — past speakers include literary heavyweights, political figures, and public intellectuals. Runs for approximately 10 days. Mix of free and ticketed events. Strong children's and young adult programming alongside the main author programme. Book ahead for popular events; many sell out within days of programme launch.
Bath Mozartfest
Mid-November annually (10–12 days)
Various venues including the Guildhall, St John's Catholic Church, Bath Pump Room
Tickets: From £12–45 per concert · bathmozartfest.org.uk
One of Europe's most concentrated Mozart festivals. Not exclusively Mozart — the programme includes classical and romantic repertoire — but with a strong Mozart core. High-quality chamber and orchestral performances across multiple venues. The intimate Bath venue scale suits the repertoire better than large concert halls.
Bath International Music Festival
Usually May–June (annual, dates vary)
Various venues across Bath
Tickets: Mix of free and ticketed events · bathfestivals.org.uk
Multi-genre music festival distinct from Mozartfest — covers classical, jazz, folk, and world music. Some outdoor events in parks and gardens. Check current year schedule — dates and programming scope shift annually.
Bath Fringe Festival (Fringe Arts Bath)
May–June, approximately 3 weeks
60+ venues across Bath, including unusual and non-traditional spaces
Tickets: From £5–18 per event · bathfringe.co.uk
One of England's significant arts fringe festivals. Theatre, dance, comedy, visual art, and performance across 60+ venues — pubs, warehouses, pop-up spaces, parks. The fringe ethos (accessible, no gatekeepers) produces a quality range from outstanding to experimental. Single-show tickets are cheaper than main festival events. Good for discovering emerging work.
Bath Christmas Market
Late November to mid-December (approximately 3 weeks)
Abbey Green, Orange Grove, Saw Close, and adjacent streets
Tickets: Free entry. Parking expensive — arrive by train or bus · bathchristmasmarket.co.uk
One of England's largest and best-regarded Christmas markets. Over 170 chalets arranged through the city centre streets. Strong food and drink provision; quality craft and artisan goods; German-influenced format brought to a particularly good setting (Georgian Bath stone looks well under Christmas lights). Weekends are extremely busy — mid-week visits are considerably more enjoyable. Free to browse.
Bath Film Festival
Late September to early October (approximately 2 weeks)
Little Theatre Cinema (St Michael's Place) and other venues
Tickets: From £8 per screening · filmbath.org.uk
Annual film festival focused on contemporary and independent film, documentary, and short film. Centred on the Little Theatre Cinema but uses additional venues. Mix of UK premieres, international cinema, and special events. Now branded FilmBath, though it still calls itself the Bath Film Festival — 2026 is its 36th edition, confirmed for 16–25 October 2026. Programme announced closer to the date on filmbath.org.uk.
