Food is simple and decent. The regulars have been here for years. It is not the kind of place where the menu changes seasonally and the lighting is dim for atmosphere. It is the kind of place where the landlord knows your name. If you are using the Two Tunnels Greenway trailhead a few minutes away, this is the natural end-point for a long ride.

In Bristol rather than Bath — it is Bristol Lido, not a Bath venue, and Bath's own historic lido is Cleveland Pools. Included because it is the food destination most Twerton and Oldfield Park residents use for a proper meal. A 20-minute drive or 45-minute cycle via the Two Tunnels Greenway and the Bristol-Bath Railway Path — the cycle route connects them without road traffic. The food (Mediterranean-leaning, good wine) is genuinely worth the trip. The heated outdoor pool alongside it is the reason to go in summer.

A riverside pub-restaurant in Saltford village, 4 miles west of Twerton along the Avon towpath. The cycle or walk from Twerton takes under an hour on the flat towpath and the arrival at a proper pub garden on the river is worth the distance. The food is honest and good. The beer garden faces the Avon. A Twerton-to-Saltford cycle followed by a long lunch here is one of the better ways to spend a Bath Saturday.
