Arguably Bath's best pub, two minutes from Kingsmead Square. The Raven serves one thing — pies — and does them correctly. The pastry is short and properly baked. The filling changes. The beer range is rotating and well-kept. No music, no sport screens, no conversion into anything. The upstairs room is smaller and slightly calmer than the bar downstairs. Kingsmead residents use it constantly and tourists have not yet overwhelmed it.

Neapolitan-style pizza on George Street, a four-minute walk from Kingsmead Square. Wood-fired, properly done — the dough is 48-hour fermented and the crust has char rather than pale bread. The room gets loud in a way that suits pizza evenings. The queue from the street at peak hours is genuine; book ahead or eat before 6:30pm.

Vietnamese cooking on St James's Parade, a few minutes' walk from Kingsmead. Pho, bun cha, and banh mi of the kind that is actually made from stock rather than sachets. Lunch on weekdays is calmer. Dinner on weekends the room fills early and booking is sensible. One of the stronger restaurants in Bath across any cuisine.

The restaurant in the converted Green Park Station train shed, under the Victorian iron and glass roof. Brunch on Saturdays is the main event — proper cooked options, the full English done correctly, eggs prepared rather than just fried. The space is unusually large for Bath and the Saturday market runs alongside it in the same building. Weekday lunch is quieter.

A reliable all-day dining option in Green Park, a minute from Kingsmead. Part of a national chain but done with more care than most — the room is genuinely good (former banking hall, high ceilings) and the menu covers brunch through dinner without the usual all-day compromise of doing none of it well. Worth knowing for weekends when elsewhere is full.
